Logitech H800 Headset
Bluetooth Headset That Doesn't Suck
I've been using bluetooth wireless headsets for a while, starting with the "NextLink Spider" headset. It was a great headset with a great battery life, a relatively comfortable fit, and they folded up into fit in my pocket. My main complaint with it was that it was difficult for people to hear my talking when driving due to the placement of the microphone.
I really wanted something with a boom microphone in addition to binaural and A2DP support, but this was difficult to find.
Finally I found the Logitech H800 headset, and I've been using it for about a week now with no issues. I've observed that people are able to hear me better on it than using my handset thanks to the directional boom microphone. Some other things I like about it:
- Relative long battery life (the box says 6 hours, but I've used it much longer -- mostly for A2DP)
- User replaceable battery -- my NextLink Spider headset's battery died and the only way to replace it was to break the container apart, which resulted in some delicate wiring being damaged and requiring re-soldering. Having a user replaceable battery means a lot to me because of this.
- It also supports a non-bluetooth mode for PCs -- I don't really care about this, but it is good to have
- Folds up fairly conveniently
- Can be charged and used simultaneously
- Uses a USB Micro-B plug to charge, like my cellphone so I only need 1 charger
Some things I did not really like about it:
- It looks fairly unattractive. It originally came with the "Logitech" logo on it, which I removed, but also the foam padding is "cheap" looking. I felt really silly walking around the airport with the boom mic sticking out, but I'm not sure that can be helped while still having a boom mic.
- Foam padding is used instead of something more comfortable (and less itchy!)
It's been a great tool so far and I definitely recommend it.
